Tea’s On Us!  With Alice and Wonderland & The Mad Hatter
Two Seatings 10 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Pre-registration Required
Dress up in your tea wear finery!  Bring along your favourite stuffed animal or doll, and join us for Alice and Wonderland / Mad Hatter Tea party at The Pen Centre!
This fun, community event is for kids accompanied by a parent.  Treats will be served and activities include crafts, story time, etiquette lessons, character meet & greet and photo area.
Parties are expected to last approximately one hour and tickets will be required for admission.  Obtain your free ticket when registering, in person only, at the Pen Guest Services Desk, starting March 1, 2017.    Parties fill quickly so be sure to register to secure your seating. Tea will include community seating, and one adult may bring up to 7 children. Ticket Admission and Reservations are required. Registration starts March 1, 2017. Seatings at either 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and are limited to 50 per seating.
**Party is for adults with children and is a communal event. One adult may bring up to 7 kids. Tables are set for 8, parties smaller than 8 share with others. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All food is nut free.  Special dietary needs can be met when disclosed at registration.

An exciting week of fun and adventurous programs await you and your family at the Museum this March Break. Take in a special, interactive tea time with historical characters, take a special flash-light tour through the Museum, or help to dig through the Museum’s collection to uncover and foil a sinister plot to change history forever!

Please see a detailed program schedule below.

All programs are ‘drop-in’ and open to the public by donation unless otherwise noted. Please note: Home Front Tea and History Hunters programs are $5.00/each and are available by registration only.

Monday March 13

  • 10 a.m. – Crafty Museum!
    Join in the messy fun while learning about history at the Museum. 10 a.m. – noon | Drop-in | Admission by donation | Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 11 a.m. – Help Build the Lego Lock!
    Back by popular demand, your Jr. Engineer can help to build a scale model of Lock 3 out of Lego. 11 a.m. – noon | Drop-in | Admission by donation | Children must be accomapnied by an adult.
  • 1 p.m. – Flashlight Tour.
    Take a special tour through the Museum’s galleries to meet some special historical characters and see the gallery in a new light. Bring your own flashlight as supplies are limited. Tour begins at 1:00 PM. 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. | Admission by Donation | Children must be accomapnied by an adult.

    Participants will have a chance to explore St. Catharines life during WWI and learn about the Patriotic League led by some of St. Catharines’ most notable women of the era. Meet Catharine Welland Merritt and other notable residents from that era as they join the Tea Party to share their experiences during the war. This formal Tea Party will introduce visitors to the history of tea, as well as some etiquette lessons. Suggested age 5/6 to 12, must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited – pre-registration is advised. $5 per person.

Wednesday, March 15

  • 10 a.m. – Crafty Museum!

  • 1 p.m. – History Hunters.
    William Hamilton Merritt has lost his memory! He can’t remember how the Welland Canal was built. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to search for historical clues and discover the early history of our City. This week-long fun, interactive historical adventure program is available to children ages  seven to 12, accompanied by an adult, and will visit various historic locations throughout the city. Suggested age seven to 12, must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited – by registration only. $5 per person.

“In Like a Lion”: Kids March Break Paint Party

CFUW-logoKids, come on out to our Paint Party! A fun activity for March Break!  This event is FREE, thanks to our sponsors, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), but space is limited.
No experience required!  Artist/Instructor, Wendy Malowany walks you through the painting demonstrating step-by-step, but allowing you to add your own creativity too. A creative way to spend March Break and have fun!  Ages 8 and up are welcome to attend.
Make sure you have breakfast and you are welcome to bring a drink and snack.
Canvas and all materials you need to create your own masterpiece are included!  We even provide aprons, but our non-toxic paint can stain some fabrics so don’t wear your brand new outfit.

Niagara Falls History Museum

Come to the Museum this March Break to discover the science and history of SNOW! Join Mad Science @ 11am & 1pm for two different shows exploring the coldest snow around and the magic of chemical reactions! Afterwards take a journey through the museum, make a winter-themed craft and complete a scavenger hunt, then finish the day off with a movie at 3pm.

Northern Owls, an exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), is the first of Niagara Parks’ planned Rooted initiatives, developed under the provincial government’s Ontario 150 Funding Program. Designed to celebrate the natural and cultural heritage of both Niagara and the province, the exhibit focuses on the fascinating and less well-known aspects of owl behavior, biology and lifestyle. Visitors will have the chance to see 10 different specimens of Northern Owls as part of the regular exhibit, as well as live raptor displays and demonstrations throughout the March Break provided by representatives from the Canadian Raptor Conservancy!

Dates: The outdoor skating rink at Fort George will be open March 11- March 19.
Times: Sunday – Thursday, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday and Saturday it will be open from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There will also be crafts available for kids.
Fort George will be open regular hours during March break, and admission is free.

Project: Puppet

Use your imagination to make puppets using a wide range of supplies. Create a complete cast of characters using a variety of techniques and materials. You will leave with everything needed to put on your own puppet show based on a children’s book. This program is in two parts over two days – attendees must be able to attend both sessions.

Robot Lab

Get hands-on with new technology! Meet our new robots Dash and Dot, and learn how you can command them to move through a maze. Tell Ozobots where to move, play and dance using lines and colours drawn on a page. Use play dough to make electronic circuits and light up your creations using Squishy Circuits. Discover how Makey Makey turns bananas into a piano, or makes a joystick to play video games on your computer. Little Bits colour-coded, magnetic electronic building blocks can be used to explore circuit building and coding while making fun things in the process.

Location: Beamsville-Great Lakes Christian Preschool

Put on something green and come with us as we visit magical Ireland and its music! We’ll bounce to an Irish trot, play instruments to “All the Way to Galway,” and relax to an Irish lullaby. We’ll also pretend to dive and swim like seals off the coast, and have fun making ocean waves with a sheet!
