BALL’S FALLS SUMMER ADVENTURE DAY CAMPS
Spend the summer outdoors!
Located at beautiful Ball’s Falls Conservation Area, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) day camps provide the opportunity for your campers to explore the great outdoors, learn about the environment, identify diverse plants and animals, and discover the history of the site!
NPCA day camps offer immersive and inclusive educational, environmental and historical activities! Each day includes a nature hike or historical tour, group games, crafts or experiments, and natural play and discovery! Each week features special guests and take-home crafts!
Dates: July 2 – August 31, 2018
Hours: 9am – 3pm, with extended hours available 8am to 4:30pm
Cost: $140/week, $35/day, $5/day for extended care, 10% family discrount available for booking two or more children
Location: Ball’s Falls Conservation Area Arboretum, 3159 Sixth Avenue, Lincoln
July 2nd – July 6th and July 30th – August 3rd
Discover science in nature! Campers will explore the world around them and learn about biodiversity through guided nature hikes, identifying different plants and animals, and locating their habitats! Uncover the amazing geology of Ball’s Falls in a rock, soil and mineral laboratory! Put your goggles on for exciting experiments to see how things work! Engaging with nature through STEAM activities, campers will experience what it’s like to be an environmental scientist!
July 9th – July 13th and August 6th – August 10th
Let’s take a trip back in time… To before dinosaurs roamed the earth! Discover fossils and rock formations from an ancient seabed and create an archeological dig! Fast forward to the 1800’s to explore an early European settlement and historical village! Campers will experience settler life, take a turn grinding wheat to flour, bake bread in an outdoor oven, help the village blacksmith, and play Victorian era games!
July 16th – July 20th and August 13th – August 17th
Have you got what it takes? Campers will develop the skills needed to survive the local natural elements! Learn how to navigate through the forest, build shelters and fires, and discover the bounty of the environment around us. Campers will also learn beginner archery skills, emergency signaling, and how to purify water for drinking. Campers will work as a team at the end of the week to complete the ultimate survivor challenge!
WET AND WILD
July 23rd – July 27th and August 20th – August 24th
Dive into the world of wetlands and wildlife at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area! Take a dip into aquatic life with pond and stream studies, and meet the reptiles, amphibians and insects that call the creek home! Traverse the trails looking for important species and their habitats! Campers will learn about water conservation, build their own wetland and participate in water relay races!
August 27th – August 31st
Close out the summer with the ultimate adventure! Trek through the forest searching for clues on an interactive scavenger hunt. Sharpen your skills in archery, create a team logo and cheer, and participate in the Summer Survivor Challenge! Channel the movements of your favourite animal and try to make it through the Habitat Maze! Campers will also create their favourite treats over the campfire, and make incredible crafts to wear back to school!
What to Pack
Campers must come prepared for an action-packed day in the great outdoors! Backpacks are to include:
– Litter-less and nut-free lunch and snacks
– Refillable water bottle
– Hat and outer layer (windbreaker, sweater)
– Sunscreen and insect repellant
– Running shoes and rubber boots
– Swimsuit and towel*
*For water-based games and activities. There are no swimming opportunities available at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area.
