Season Openings in Niagara!

May is the month for season openings in Niagara. With warmer weather comes more fun outdoors.

Here are 6 season openings in Niagara:


1) Lakeside Park Carousel Opening

Has been delayed because of the flooding.

Location: Lakeside Park, 1 Lakeport Road, St. Catharines
The opening of the Lakeside Park Carousel will be on Saturday, May 18.
Carousel Hours:
May 18 – June 9, 2019: open weekends and holidays only from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
June 15 – September 2, 2019: open daily from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
September 7 – October 14, 2019: open weekends and holidays only from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.  


2) Animals Arrive at Happy Rolph’s

Location: 650 Read Rd., St. Catharines
The animals will be at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm starting Victoria Day weekend. Enjoy the animals as well as picnic areas, a nature trail along the water, and a large playground. Open from 10am-8pm.


3) Safari Niagara Opens

Celebrate Safari Niagara’s opening day May 18, 2019, from 10am-5pm.
Safari Niagara welcomes visitors of all ages and abilities to join them for opening day and throughout the season to experience our nature park that houses more than 1000 birds & animals.
Here is Safari Niagara’s summer schedule:
May 18, 2019 – June 14, 2019: 10am-5pm
June 15, 2019 – September 2, 2019: 9am-6pm
September 3, 2019 – October 11, 2019: 10am-5pm
October 12, 2019 – October 14, 2019: 9:30am-4pm
October 15, 2019: Closed for the season


4) Splash Pads Open

Most of the splash pads around Niagara open on the May long weekend. Splash pad openings are definitely weather dependent, so cross your fingers for warm weather!

5) Public Beaches Officially Open

Public beaches in Niagara have water quality testing done between May (Victoria Day) and September (Labour Day). Most public washrooms at beaches and parks open in May as well.

Nickel Beach Opens
Seasonal hours of operation (vehicle access):
Victoria Day Weekend (May 17) to Labour Day (September 2)
Mondays – Thursdays: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Fridays – Sundays & Holiday Mondays:  9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Holiday Weekends (Friday – Monday): 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m

Crystal Beach/Bay Beach opens
Located at Ashwood Avenue and Erie Road, in Crystal Beach
On-site parking is available at a cost of $4/hour or $10/day per vehicle.

Bay Beach Grand Re-Opening Sunday, May 26, 2019, 11 am – 4 pm
Bay Beach Fort Erie, Ontario
After a year of construction, Bay Beach is almost ready for your enjoyment!  On Sunday, May 26, 2019, the official Bay Beach Grand Re-Opening will be held starting at 11 am. This is a family focused event and everyone is invited to come out for the day to enjoy the beach, the new park, facilities, a variety of family entertainment the first annual Bay Beach Sand Castle Competition, food trucks and more.


6) Farmers’ Markets Open

There are some farmers’ markets around Niagara that are only open from sprint to fall. The following farmers’ markets open in May.

Ridgeway Farmers’ Market
Location: 290 Ridge Road, Ridgeway
Hours: Saturdays (May to October) 8 am to 1 pm
Opens May 11, 2019

Pelham Farmers’ Market
Location: 20 Pelham Town Square, Fonthill, in the Municipal Parking lot
Hours: Thursdays (May – October), 4 pm – Dusk
Opens May 2, 2019

Grimsby Farmers’ Market
Location: 56 Main St. W, Main Street West Between Ontario and Christie
Hours: Thursdays (May to October), 3 pm – 7 pm

Farmers’ Market at the Village
Location: 111 Garrison Village Dr., Niagara-on-the-Lake (at the corner of Niagara Stone Road & Niven Road)
Hours: Saturdays (May to October), 8 am – 1 pm
Opens May 25, 2019.
