    Niagara Sky Wheel

On Saturday, as the sky opened up and decided to rain on us, we headed to Clifton Hill to show our Toronto friend Polly (age 8) some of the more touristy parts of the Niagara Region. We wanted to show her a truly unique view of the Falls, so our first stop was the Niagara Sky Wheel, Niagara’s tallest Ferris wheel.

Sky Wheel is the very best kind of Ferris wheel. Rather than rickety chairs that rock in the slightest breeze, passengers are treated to cozy climate-controlled cabins with optional music or some facts and info from a pre-recorded tour guide. With excited kids, the tour info is next to impossible to hear, but the ride was smooth and pleasant for me – I’m not so great with heights.

Your money gets you five full rotations on the 175' wheel, which is plenty of opportunity to snap some great photos of the aerial view of both the US and Canadian Falls. It also gives a great birds-eye view of the lights and sights of bright and noisy Clifton Hill.

Be prepared to have your children try to coerce you into experiencing the dinosaur-themed mini golf below the Sky Wheel. It’s irresistible when viewed from above, with life-sized dinos of every variety and a steaming, spluttering, erupting volcano. We had the rain on our side, so the kids were content to just take in the great view and pine for better weather on our next visit. None of them were bored on this ride, including our 19-month-old toddler, who kept watching for the wooly mammoth on the golf course below.

The best deal for your money is the Clifton Hill Fun Pass. Available at the ticket booth for Sky Wheel, this pass gets you access to Sky Wheel, The Great Canadian Midway (with 5 tokens), The Movieland Wax Museum of Stars, The XD Theatre, and the Ghostblasters Dark Ride.  Plus you get your choice of the brand new, indoor Wizard's Golf or the outdoor Dinosaur Adventure Golf. Sky Wheel is a Niagara Falls must-do attraction.
